Are you interested in joining the Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program? Come learn about how you can serve on our Hotline or create programing to promote mental health on campus! We provide services to the University at Albany community through:
- Our Hotline Service which functions as the campus peer assistance agency, especially after hours when other campus support services are closed. The Hotline is staffed from 1:00 PM to midnight Monday through Thursday and 24 hours a day on weekends throughout the academic year.
- The Peer Wellness Service which is primarily responsible for the coordination of agency-wide programming efforts, seasonal preventative theme weeks, and peer wellness coaching. Peer wellness coaching is a free service offered to the student population. Peer Wellness Coaches are trained to take a motivational, positively-focused perspective in order to help students generate goals and gain awareness about their overall well-being. Peer educators also complete outreach to the broader campus community via exhibits, presentations, workshops and peer theater performances. Topics include drugs and alcohol, dating and relationships, study skills, suicide prevention, healthy coping skills, diversity, and other issues.
Middle Earth is an excellent way for students to gain experience and preparation for careers in psychology, social work, teaching, medicine, communication and other related fields. Anyone can apply, regardless of his or her major. Course credit is available through ECPY 400, 403, 404, 405, 406, and 497 within the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology. These courses also fulfill some of the requirements for an Educational Studies minor and the Human Development major at the University. Please note that if you wish to enroll in the above courses, you must apply to and be accepted into the Middle Earth program.
