Do you like to read poetry or write your own?The NYS Writers Institute with Capital District Latinos is hosting a Pedro Pietri Night.

Pedro Pietri was a famous Nuyorican poet who wrote on themes of social justice, power, culture, migration and resistance. We want to celebrate Pietri's life and work with a night of poetry read and performed by students and community members. 

The event will take place at 160 Central Ave March 8th Friday 6-9pm (volunteers will arrive at 1 and stay till 9, you can do 3 hour blocks)

What to do? Email me your name and title of your poem or selected Pietri poem you would like to read. (groups poems are an option as well as music, performance and excerpts from longer Pietri poems. Poems that highlight themes such as culture, power, social justice, resistance, migration, identity are encouraged. 

Not creative or ready to read a poem? NO PROBLEM- we need volunteers to direct people, decor, pass flyers and more, if you like behind the scenes tasks we have something for you too!!!

Not familiar with Pedro Pietri's poem? NO PROBLEM- google search "Pedro Pietri Poems PDF" click on the city lights link and you can download one of Pietri's poetry books. 

 If I am not Latina/o can I attend and participate? YES EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE!
 

Set-up: Setting tables for event, putting-up

Breakdown: taking down decorations (may include some heavy lifting).

Greeter: Greeting guests, showing guest where the event is being held

Bathroom: Monitoring the bathrooms throughout the event to make sure bathrooms are stocked with soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.

Registration: Welcome attendees, help them sign in, guide them into the venue, and give out coffee packs (end of event).

Floater: Assisting in any needed area.

General Cleanup: General cleanup throughout the event.

Food Station: Monitoring food, making sure area is clean, replenishing items as needed and distributing food.

Tour Guides: Guide attendees on a tour throughout the building.
