Volunteer: Searching for new volunteers for a variety of opportunities in a historic settingVolunteers at the Shaker Heritage Society have a variety of roles and work all sorts of hours. Throughout the year, we're in need of assistance in our Education department, with research and organizational roles. In spring, summer, and fall, we need volunteers to work in our Museum Shop behind the register and as greeters, as well as assist with special events like our Summer and Harvest Craft Fairs, as well as our popular Holiday Market between October and December. Inspired by the Shakers' motto, "hands to work, hearts to god," we created our Hands to Work Days as a way to emulate the Shakers' belief in integrity in their labor as well as their worship. Hands to Work Days are an opportunity for the community to gather and assist us in beautifying our site. From mopping and dusting our historic Meeting Room to raking leaves and clearing branches throughout our site, we would be glad to have your help. And if you love to tell stories, we are revamping our docent program and are looking for folks interested in learning all about our site and its history and sharing it with our visitors. Volunteer: Release your inner superhero! What is the Saratoga Senior Center? Since 1955 the mission of the Saratoga Senior Center is to empower seniors to achieve and maintain personal independence and individual well-being by providing the program structure and support services necessary for healthy recreation, companionship, social involvement, and problem solving. Opportunity Description Not every superhero wears a cape or a unitard! A majority of them are everyday heroes who help senior citizens get to their medical appointments, pharmacies or even grocery shopping! Some of these heroes paint, do handy work, clean or bring their families to assist with yardwork! Other heroes use their super hearing to simply listen to seniors and give reassurance. While these small acts of kindness may seem like nothing to you, they could quite possibly change the day, week or month for a senior citizen with limited mobility or without transportation. Imagine the burden of having to see your doctor and not being able to get there!? Your time will make an impact not only on individual lives but the senior community as a whole and that's a cause we all care about! We realize time is money and we don't want to take advantage of your generosity. Your time commitment is yours. We have people who volunteer 2 hours a month and others who volunteer 2 hours a day! Many of our volunteers do "one offs", stepping in to help a senior with a singular task! There are obvious benefits to our seniors but did I mention the studies that show people who volunteer live happier, healthier lives!? We would love to have you and your super abilities here at the Saratoga Senior Center. Please contact us through the portal or contact Lawrence @ 518.584.1621 x209 M-F 8am-4pm! Volunteer: Social AcceleratorThe Friends and Foundation of Albany Public Library seeks three or more volunteers to help enliven discussion and engagement with our social media platforms, to better inform the public about the FFAPL's author programs, APL programs, and the FFAPL's fundraising initiatives.
The Friends and Foundation of Albany Public Library changed its name in February 2020 and launched a new website and identity in the midst of the pandemic. Since our name change, we have lost a great deal of Facebook engagement. We have an intergenerational audience from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. We seek online ambassadors for our Facebook page to reach out to local Facebook "groups" and expand awareness about our organization and programs.
We also seek volunteers who would like to learn about social media marketing and can commit to 5-8 weeks. Volunteers may take on or assist with one of the following projects:
Social Media Audit
Updating content calendar
Thematic scheduled posts
Monitoring social media analytics
Create blog and linked social media content
Build and deploy auto-reply tools

Volunteer: Serving the evening meal at a Homeless Shelter for men, women and families: Troy, NYJoseph's House & Shelter provides temporary shelter for homeless women, men and families in Troy NY as well as supported living accommodation, in Albany, and Troy, NY, for formerly homeless adults. Our long-term tenants have disabling conditions, which have prevented them living in the wider community. Your presence can help reassure those we serve that they are remembered by the community, and cared for by society at a time of great need. Volunteers help our staff serve the prepared dinner for our guests and tenants, and provide a friendly face and kindness. This opportunity requires you to be available from 4:40pm to 6:15pm any day of the week. Our buildings are all staffed 24/7 but with fewer staff at that dinner hour, your help allows staff to deal with client needs, the front doors and phones, while you help and chat with those we serve. Sign-up is by an online calendar or app, and you do not need to be available every week on the same day, We do suggest you aim to serve at least twice each month so you are familiar with the task and can work independently. We are a Housing First and harm-reduction based, secular agency. You will be required to compete the short application form, and provide us with 2 references who can attest to your ability to be non-judgmental and confidential. After a phone call and a general systems and safety orientation to the organization, you will able to choose your shifts online. Training for the task will be given by our staff at your first shift. Adults may accompany teens to do this task and small groups of 2-3 friends or a family can do this task. The kitchens are not large enough to accommodate a large team. Agency: Joseph's House & Shelter Joseph's House & Shelter provides temporary shelter for homeless women, men and families in Troy NY as well as supported living accommodation, in Albany, and Troy, NY, for formerly homeless adults. Volunteer: Community Outreach AssistantThe idea for this volunteer opportunity came directly from one of our families! Since the pandemic, many of the individuals that we serve have been kept inside the group homes, not able to partake in activities in their community.
This person would actively search for activities and events in the local communities, and maintain a calendar of upcoming events. This person would be a resource for the house managers to assist in planning, obtaining tickets (if applicable), and securing adequate transportation.
