Family & Child Service of Schenectady, Inc., (FCSS) is a community based, not-for- profit social services agency which was founded by the Junior League of Schenectady in 1930. Our mission is to: “enrich the lives of vulnerable individuals and their families, including the elderly and those with disabilities, by providing highly personalized, in-home and community-based services.” We are celebrating our 89th year of service in 2019.

We serve more than 500 clients in seven counties in the Capital Region. 1. Homemaker Program: Serves the frail elderly, the terminally ill and younger persons with physical illnesses and mental disabilities; providing in-home services to keep them independent in their own homes for as long as possible. Services include light housekeeping/laundry/grocery shopping/meal prep/errands/transportation to appointments. 2. Employment Services Program: Serving a client base of adult individuals who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. Program provides on site employment training and pre-vocational training to teach job skills, explore career paths, secure a paid position in the workforce. 3. Family Support Services Program: Serving a client base of children and adults who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. Services include community habilitation, respite services, reimbursement grants for goods/services/recreation; behavioral and family intervention services to help those individuals with challenging behaviors. 4. Self Direction Program: Serving a client base of children and adults who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. Staff in this program work with clients to assist them in choosing the types of supportive services they need/desire to live independently. 5. Counseling Program. Traditional counseling services for individuals, couples and families.
