Race Details: The Race Day schedule includes a Story Walk for children, an 1.5 mile guided Nature Walk, a Youth Mile and the 5K Run/Walk followed by an Awards Ceremony at 11:15 am. This is a family friendly event and will include children's activities, and health and educational activities provided by local businesses and/or agencies.  In addition participants and families will have the opportunity to remain in the park and enjoy the many amenities it offers including the picnic areas, 8 miles of trails, biking, volleyball, horseshoes, and a kayak/canoe launch site. The park is designated as a State Estuary having a portion of the park sheltering a Bird Conservation Area that is home to bald eagles, cerulean warblers and blue herons that nest in the cottonwood trees. Day of Race registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

Course Descriptions:
5k Trail Run/Walk - The 5K course will take runners/walkers over fairly level, wide, hard packed dirt trails. Participants will experience the thrill of racing through a shady forest of Cottonwood and Locust trees, over wide trails of hard packed dirt and grass. The course will take runners to the banks of the beautiful Schodack Creek where eagles will watch them race by. Just before crossing the finish line they will take a victory lap around the main park area on a smooth, stone dust path.
Youth Mile - The Youth mile course will take the runners around the park's oval, and over its smooth, stone dust track while spectators will have the chance to cheer them on.

Guided Nature Walk - This 1.5 miles guided walk will be led by a Park Naturalist. Participants will learn to identify Asian Bittersweet, Poison Ivy, and possibly Emerald Ash Borer. The walk is suitable for all ages and abilities. It will begin and end at the Pavilion. The route will follow the bike path stopping for views of the Hudson River and Schodack Creek. May see a variety of plants and birds and maybe even some eagles along the walk.
Story Walk - A fun way to enjoy nature and listen to a story. The Story Walk will be led by Castleton Public Library staff and is most appropriate for children (8 & under).
