University at Albany’s Race for Equity 5K celebrates social justice accomplishments in the United States, raises awareness about current injustices, and educates participants as our nation forges ahead in our Race for Equity. Thirty "social justice stations" will be set up along the path. Each station will be dedicated to memorializing a social justice accomplishment or raising awareness about a current injustice we face today, and offer information and giveaways (Equity 5K Bags provided) related to their topic.
The 5K run/walk/roll will start and end at Coach Bob Ford Field, culminating with a watch party/celebration! ARE Event Productions will be managing the course and timing logistics. Competitive runners, walkers and children (including those in strollers) from the UAlbany community and general public are all welcome to join the event, which will also include music and tabling by student organizations and local non-profit organizations.
Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to social justice scholarships for new and continuing University at Albany students who demonstrate interest in, and advocacy for, advancing social justice initiatives.
Registered participants will be provided a bracelet that will grant entry to an afterparty at Bob Ford Field where the UAlbany vs. Syracuse football game will be played live on the Jumbotrons. Food and beverages will be available for purchase in the stadium.
