The Love Your Block program will be helping a local resident of the South End Neighborhood build more healthy fresh top soil over compacted gravel by putting down layers of cardboard, burlap sacks, mulch and compost. Volunteers will be expected to remove weeds, litter, and overgrowth, and shovel and spread mulch and compost.
There will be a lunch break from 12 - 1 pm. Lunch will NOT be provided.
After lunch, volunteer tasks will switch from 6 Delaware Street to around the corner at 63 Clinton Street to put together 12 metal raised beds (sized 4x1.5x1). Volunteers will be expected to complete minor installation then fill the each metal raised bed with 1 55lb bag of soil. Afterwards, flowers and/or vegetable starts will be transplanted and watered.
No previous volunteer experience is necessary and all volunteers should come prepared in closed toed shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and a water bottle. Love Your Block will be providing all necessary tools and materials along with snacks, water, and gardening gloves. The nearest public restrooms are located at the Howe Library branch.
