ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Volunteering as a Clothing Pantry Attendant is a great opportunity to support individuals experiencing or facing homelessness by ensuring they have access to clean, quality clothing & essential items. Volunteers get an opportunity to build valuable skills, work alongside IPH staff & guests, learn about services for individuals facing homelessness, and to be of service in their community.
ABOUT IPH
IPH's Clothing Pantry is a part of IPH's Community Connections Program. This valuable program offers a supportive, flexible setting for community members, offering access to essential services including: clothing, meals & food, laundry, showers, lockers, and case management services.

located at The Hoffman Family Center: 315 Sheridan Ave, Albany NY
HOURS & COMMITMENT
Volunteers can commit to a one-time day of service (groups up to 3) however we do encourage volunteers to commit to a regular schedule (~1 day/week). Join us individually our grab a friend to support this fun and meaningful effort!
Volunteer hours are between:
Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
we ask volunteers to commit to 2 hour blocks*
*based on scheduling and capacity. We ask volunteers to share their availability and then schedule volunteers based on the capacity of the pantry as well as coverage.
DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: To assist in greeting donors and clients visiting the IPH Clothing Pantry.
Duties: Welcome and greet guests. Assist in selecting clothing from inventory. Bag clothing items. Maintain a visually pleasing store. Stock items as needed. Sort items as needed. Greet donors and receive donations as needed.
Responsibilities: Maintain a professional and caring image to customers and donors. Follow all Clothing Pantry policies and procedures in a positive manner. Communicate any issues or concerns to leadership. Treat shoppers with dignity and respect. Support maintenance of the Storage Room where needed. Stock and maintain the Clothing Pantry floor.
Specifications: Willingness to work in a team environment and with diverse populations. Good communication skills. Patience. Willingness to work independently.
What to Expect: Volunteers will be screened and scheduled via phone or email correspondence with IPH Community Coordinator. New volunteers will be given a tour of IPH's Hoffman Family Center and simple orientation. Following orientation volunteers may be expected to work independently or in small teams.
ROLES
Depending on the shift you commit to, you will likely fulfill one of three roles:
Clothing Pantry Attendant Assistant:
- Ensure clothing racks are organized
- Remove empty hangers from racks
- Move any clothing items that may be out of place to the appropriate, designated section
- Hang new donations
- Welcome and assist IPH guests
- Sign in IPH guests: name & quantity of items distributed
- Keep Clothing Pantry Store-front clean
- Remove garbage, stained clothing and empty into dumpster outside
- Sweep clothing pantry floors
- Wipe down/dust household items
Clothing Pantry Receiving Attendant
- Greet and receive donations as they are dropped off
- Process incoming donations
- Run Donations through high-heat dryer cycle
- Sort out-of-season clothing into storage bins in Sorting Room
- Hang seasonal items on to hangers
- Bring seasonal items to the store to be sorted onto the Clothing Pantry Floor
- Assist in hanging items in the clothing pantry
Operations Support
- Assist in all aspect of Clothing Pantry Operations
