Come help build a food forest in Albany! On Saturday, April 15th, the Radix Center will be having a volunteer food tree planting event where we will be planting 25 mature apples, pears, juneberries, pecans, hickories, oaks, and more on the sidewalks of Morton Ave, Myrtle Ave, and Lincoln Park. The food grown on these public trees will be available for free to local residents. These plantings are being undertaken with the guidance and support of the City of Albany. This planting is part of the South End Biocultural Diversity Forest program organized by the Radix Ecological Center in Albany. By planting more trees in the neighborhood at no cost to residents, we hope to address systemic inequality, build climate justice, reduce urban heat island temperatures, improve air quality, increase local food sovereignty, enhance biodiversity, and bolster the resilience of Albany's urban forest. Once complete, we will have planted 175 trees in Albany's South End since 2021! If you are interested in participating, please arrive at the Radix Center at 153 Grand Street at 10 AM for a tree planting training and demonstration. We will continue working until 2PM or until all the trees have been planted. Transportation is not provided but you can take the CDTA#114 to Madison and Grand Street and walk two blocks to arrive at Radix. For more info, contact Haley at haley@radixcenter.org.
