UPSTATE NEW YORK JUNIOR SCIENCE AND
HUMANITIES SYMPOSIUM
University at Albany | February 28 – 29, 2024
Each spring in Albany, NY, young scientists representing high schools across New York present the
results of original scientific research before 600+ fellow students, teachers, mentors and judges at the
Upstate New York Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (Upstate NY JSHS).
For most of the students, these presentations represent the culmination of a three-year Science
Research in the High School program that unites students, teachers and mentors in a common research
experience.
Volunteers needed:
Wednesday February 28:
10:30am-12:30pm ( Four Volunteers needed)
Meeting place: in front of the Ballroom
Task: Student guide- be available to show students/ teachers where various rooms on campus are. The volunteers should know where the following locations are: CC 375, The Multipurpose room, Science Library- Standish Room, Science Library 206 and Assembly Hall .
12pm-5pm(this can be broken up into two shifts 12-2:30 and 2:30-5)(one Volunteer needed)
Meeting Place: Science Library 206
Task: Assistant Room Supervisor - Room Supervisors ensure that no one leaves or enters the session room (except for emergency, of course) once the speaker has begun their presentation and discourages talking and noise among the audience. This person will be assisting a UHS staff member since SL 206 is a large space.
12:30pm-2:30pm( Four Volunteers needed)
Meeting Place: Multipurpose room, Science Library Standish Room, Science Library 206 and Assembly Hall
Task: Student guide- be available to show students/ teachers where various rooms on campus are. The volunteers should know where the following locations are: CC 375, The Multipurpose room, Science Library Standish Room, Science Library 206 and Assembly Hall .
2:30pm-4:30pm( Four Volunteers needed)
Meeting Place: Multipurpose room, Science Library Standish Room, Science Library 206 and Assembly Hall
Task: Student guide- be available to show students/ teachers where various rooms on campus are. The volunteers should know where the following locations are: CC 375, The Multipurpose room, Science Library Standish Room, Science Library 206 and Assembly Hall .
Thursday February 29:
11am-1:15pm(Four Volunteers needed)
Meeting place: in front of the Ballroom
Task: Student guide- be available to show students/ teachers where various rooms on campus are. The volunteers should know where the following rooms in the campus center are: CC 375, The Multipurpose room, Board Room, the Studio and Assembly Hall.
